Valorant voice chat will recorded to combat “disruptive or offensive behavior”

Valorant voice chat will now be recorded by Riot Games

Riot Games has made changes to its Privacy Notice and Terms of Service, noting that starting now, all voice chat in Valorant will be recorded for the purposes of combating “disruptive voice communications.”

According to the notice, this will also be a possibility in Riot’s other games, such as League of Legends, but for now, the only game where chat will be recorded is Valorant (thanks, Blue).

“We know reducing disruptive behavior is a complex problem that will require long-term investment and many different approaches to address—particularly in terms of voice comms, “reads the update. “There’s still work to be done on this long journey but we’re committed to providing the social experiences that players deserve when they play our games.

“We’re exploring other approaches that we believe will improve in-game experiences and we’ll share an update about our plans in the coming months, but we believe that the ability to act on reports of disruptive voice comms is one of the first steps toward a community where we can all play together safely.”

Riot states the recorded chat will be used to evaluate data when a player submits a report of disruptive behavior. Once the communication has been reviewed, the data will be deleted when no longer needed after a review.

“The update to our privacy notice allows us to record and potentially evaluate voice data when using Riot-owned voice comms channels. When a player submits a report for disruptive or offensive behavior in voice comms, the relevant audio data will be stored in your account’s registered region and evaluated to see if our behavior agreement was violated.

“If a violation is detected, we’ll take action. After the data has been made available to the player in violation (and is no longer needed for reviews) the data will be deleted, similar to how we currently handle text-based chat reports. If no violation is detected, or if no report is filed in a timely manner, the data will be deleted. ”

In order to avoid having your discussions recorded, you will need to turn off chat and use different software for communication.

If you are unfamiliar with Valorant, it’s a 5v5 first-person tactical shooter and is free-to-play on PC.

In the game, teams of five players are pitted against each other to win a round-based, attackers vs defenders, best-of-24-rounds gunfight.
