Condolences to the family of Wallace McCain
Dear McCain Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Wallace McCain. Mr. McCain was an innovative and much-respected business leader and philanthropist and the University of Ottawa counted him among its major benefactors.

The University gratefully acknowledges his generous contributions, some of which include the McCain Research Fund, which funds Dr. Mona Nemer’s research into Holt-Oram Syndrome, and the CN-Paul M. Tellier Chair in Business and Public Policy. Other gifts from McCain Foods and Maple Leaf Foods, as well as from Mr. McCain himself, helped support major initiatives.

I would like to express my heartfelt condolences for this tragic loss on behalf of the University of Ottawa. Mr. McCain had a powerful and positive impact on the lives of many in the university community and he will be missed.

Our hearts and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

With sympathy,

Allan Rock
President and Vice-Chancellor

My deepest sympathies to Michael, Scott and the McCain family for your loss, our loss. Wallace was such an accomplished man, and even more importantly a truly great person. He has left his mark forever on this world by positively impacting every one of us who knew him. I am truly honoured and priviledged to have known and worked with Wallace. His values, committment and humility will forever be an inspiration to me. My heartfelt sympathy to you.

My family and I want to extend our sympathies to the McCain family. We have lost a great great man in Wallace and he will be truly missed.

I had the pleasure to work with Wallace on one of his market visits. He knew all of the customers by first name and they treated him like a true friend. His best day was calling on customers from 7:00 in the morning till 7:00 at night. He loved to talk and joke around with his customers.

To me he was very personable, inspirational, and fun to be with. I will never forget the great day that we spent together. I will never forget the great man that Wallace McCain was and the legacy that he has left us.

After almost seven years living in Dubai, I wanted our children to know Canada as home. We returned, and it was what seemed like a stroke of luck that my husband was offered a job as a corporate pilot for Wallace McCain, and his family. There can be no finer people than these to work for. Despite their great success, they are kind, considerate, humble, and true. It isn't often you meet people like this, who you know are special. To treat you almost like family, and with no pretense, but with an honesty that is rare today.
Thank you Wallace for all you have done for Canada. My husband Chris being employed for you and the family, made our decision to come home the right one, without question. My children know that their Dad is a lucky guy to have the job he does. He works for a family who represent the best of what Canada is, and what this nation represents. Both you and Margie have been an inspiration. We thank you and will miss you Wallace. From the bottom of our hearts. You have been a big influence in Chris' life. You have meant something to him, and demonstrated qualities that he admires and tries to emulate in his own life. Thank you.

Several years ago, as a CDN Customs Officer clearing arrivals at Florenceville International Airport, I welcomed a returning company plane on a Saturday evening.
Bounding off the airstep was Mr. Wallace McCain followed by Mrs. McCain, descending somewhat more carefully.

Wallace said "Dwayne, do you know where we are coming from?"....and of course that could have been literally anywhere in the world, however, he immediately continued with "we have just had dinner with the president of the United States....(and he continued)...not bad for a boy from Carleton County"......

Not bad indeed Mr. McCain...not bad indeed.

What do you say about such a great man.
Wallace was a teacher, whether from near or far, whether you watched him in action or you sat across from him at his desk, going through details.
It amazed me that people at every level of the organization admired him, from the shop floor to the boardroom.
In my years at Maple Leaf, he always shone as a beacon of strength, and tenacity.
I would have to say he taught me a lot (including how to swear for maximum effect), and I think it is difficult to express gratitude and admiration to the extent it is likely due.  So I suppose the best thing we all can do as Wallace " students" is the live our lives to the very best of our ability in a manner that would make him proud.

My heart goes out Michael, Scott and the family during this time. He was truly amazing.

Scotty, Michael, Mrs. McCain and the rest of the McCain Family

The 1st time I met Mr. McCain was in the dungeon in Truman House. We were having a beer with some of the boys, Wallace walked in, asked for a beer and told Scott to turn that d*** music down (I understand that Wallace was bilingual according to Mrs. M).
The next time was when Aboud and I and our families were visiting Scott in Florenceville and we went over to his Dad's house for a swim. Aboud and I thought it would be a good idea to play some tennis and Mr. McCain ran into the house and came out with a whole selection of shoes, racquets and balls and said, get to it boys !!!

Over the years while keeping in touch with Scott, I found it amazing how much time his Mom and Dad devoted to the family in spite of their incredibly busy business, political, philanthropic and social lives. I think that is the true measure of success and know that your family will always treasure those special times together.

Take Care
